Next, let's practice creating something from scratch. We're going to do a quick prototype so this doesn't have to be perfect. It's really more about the practice than it is the end product. Next, let's click on logo and we're going to be doing this from scratch. So when you click on it, you're going to get a blank dot document. Now if you really want you could come over here and grab one of these templates for logos. But I kind of wanted us to practice going from scratch. So let's start with a shape.

We're going to come over here to shapes. And in the search box we're going to type in badge, then hit enter and we're going to get a lot of different shapes that could become a badge for a logo. I think I like this shield right here. So I'm going to go ahead and click on that and I'm going to choose a different color. Now when you click on color here, you're going to get a lot of different options. And on the very bottom this is your hue picker. This allows you to scroll back and forth and pick a color that you want. Then over here you have to choose the amount of saturation and the value. When you go from right to left, this is Desaturated and this is saturated. So to the right more saturated. And then from top to bottom is the value. So if you go down to the bottom, that's going to be a darker value. And if you go up to the top, it's going to be a brighter value. Next I'm going to resize this. I'm going to make it bigger.

Now let's add some text. So we're going to click on the text tool and we're just going to use this add text. Although if you want, you're welcome to pick any of these elements down here. First let's hit add text and let's type in your classroom number. The number of your classroom. I'm in twelve two. So I'm going to pull that up and I'm going to make it nice and big. And let's change the color. Something has good contrast here. All right, so that's pretty cool.

And you could change the font if you want. Find something cool. What I like to show people is if you click on this more fonts at the very bottom, you'll get some categories and you can pick from one of these categories that make sense to you. I like the rounded maybe go see what is in the rounded options here. Or maybe rough. That sounds like an interesting choice. Cool. All right, the next thing I wanted to show you is let's add one more text element. So let's go to text and hit add text and we'll type in our last name. So Dockery, you'll type in your last name and I'm going to move this up here.

The next thing I wanted to show you is you can curve text. So if you come over here with the text selected, come over here and you can choose invert semicircle. I think that might look kind of neat. Let's stretch it out. And the last thing we're going to do right here in the middle is we're going to add another shape. Click on Shape and maybe type in something that you teach. Let's say I was a math teacher. I'm going to type in math and there's a calculator here's, some math symbols. I kind of like these math symbols. I'm going to go ahead and click on that. Now this is going to be hard to see, so let's start by clicking on it and then changing the color.

There we go. We've got a couple of different elements. We've got our badge, we've got our room number, our name. We have all these things and we want these to be nice and lined up. So that's what I wanted to show you next is you can do what's called a marquee selection. You can click and drag and select everything. That's the easiest way. You can also click on one thing and then hold shift down and click on the other. That's going to take a little bit more time, but it got everything selected. Once you have more than one thing selected over here in your Edit selection, you can line things up. So I'm going to line them up horizontally and then I'll group them all together and I'm going to resize them. All right.

This is a great looking logo. The other thing I wanted to mention when you're working with groups is if you click on something, it doesn't let you select it or change it. So you have to either ungroup it or click again. If I click again, it'll let me go into individual elements. So for example, let's say I wanted to change my name to White. I can. So first of all, make sure to give it a name. I'm going to call it twelve two. Logo my room number. And when you go to download it, make sure to choose PNG with transparent background that will get rid of this white background there. So I'm going to hit Start Download and it's going to put it in my downloads folder.

Later, when we're working with our brands, we're going to use that logo. Before we move on, let's do a little bit of file organization. Now that we have a second file, let's go to our Projects folder and drag that new logo into our Exprs course folder. When you open up that folder, you should see the two files that we've created. One from scratch and one from a template.
