Ok… So I’ve been thinking about a ton of different ways to get Illustrator to make sense to you as a photoshop user. I think I have a lot of good ideas and we’re going to start a new little series of activities that should make it make more sense. So this week is the “I love illustrator almost as much as Schwartz” week. We’re going to just be looking at cool, fun, easy ways to work with illustrator WITHOUT starting with the pen tool… and then we’ll ease back into the pen. I think I have some ideas that will work!
COMM TECH 2 STUDENTS- You blew a chance at $1000. The Poster contest for Palm Beach Film Festival has been up for over a month, and I haven’t seen a single entry. That’s just sad. Look at previous winners and you’d know you DEFININTELY had a chance at an easy extra grand in cold hard cash. Wake up and start paying attention to your project list. Every day, you should look at abduzeedo’s daily inspiration and then your project page.
1/28- We’ve been working in illustrator- getting a lot of live help from me in class… Tutorials coming soon to jump start you new Illy users. I think you’re going to like the way we approach it now. Let’s start over with a focus on the quick start ways to some amazing images- and we’ll be designing pins sometime this week… NO PHOTOSHOP images- Only illustrator for the pins!
More than half of the CT1 students are already certified and the number grows daily. So now we’re starting to branch out and cover the actual ART of photoshop and digital design. I want the CT1’s to start working on the new project experimenting with line. We’re going to do some projects that force a focus on all the elements and principles. The goal here is to SEE and to THINK in a new way. Make sure you get these rules. It’s the only way to move from technically proficient to artistic.
CT2’s should be finishing the self portrait (typographic) or working on your own inspiring piece of art. The wall of fame awaits.
10/12- No school yesterday. I’m sure there was a lot of COD2 going on in Palm Beach!!! Today, there’s a new project up for CT1’s working with a new program and exploring SHAPE!!! Remember- the goal is to let your mind shift. Become creative. Think outside the elemntary school ways of doing things. Start thinking and expressing yourself. Oh, and CT1’s and II’s that need something else to do, Knock one of these out…
Check this out CT2’s! You get a chance to win a contest that has a possible prize of $2500 cash for the school and $5000 scholarship for yourself!!!! You’ll be designing a billboard for Florida Kids Care (we did a similar project last year.)
I expect an entry from EVERY COMM TECH 2 STUDENT!!!
The contest says it’s due DECEMBER 02, but YOU need to get it done by October 10. This will be a fair part of your grade for this quarter. Dont’ use the online builder, I want this done in Photoshop!!!

Hi Mr. Schwartz,
I am excited to have your support again this year. Here are the required text and images needed to complete the ad:
- The Acreage Loxahatchee Rotary Club logo.
- The Project SMART logo.
- The message must stand out in the ad. Students may choose from one of the three following messages to include in the ad:
- The best kept secret: Most SRHS students do not drink.
The Acreage Loxahatchee Rotary Club applauds the positive choices our teens make.
- Have you heard? Most SRHS students do not drink. The Acreage Loxahatchee Rotary Club congratulates the healthy choices our students make.
- Believe it or not. It’s true. Most SRHS students do not drink. Way to go! From the The Acreage Loxahatchee Rotary Club.
- Finally, in smaller print, please include: Source: 2008 Palm Beach County Substance Abuse Survey
All entries should be turned in by Tuesday, September 1st, 2009. One winner will receive 2 tickets to the SRHS football home game of their choice.
Here’s your chance to create an image that gets some heavy rotation here in the lab… See those images up top at brainbuffet.com? Well, we can rotate images in there if I just upload to a folder. Here’s the specs:
- 1200×150 pixels
- Include your name in the image in this specific format: Use your full first name and the first and last letters of your last name. Put this in the bottom 50 pixels, on the right hand side of the image (the last 200 pixels). For example, I would put “robsz” for rob schwartz
- It can be vector or raster- use whatever image generating program you want
- Follow copyright rules if you use an image. Stick to the sites we always use and you should be relatively safe.
- If I like the image (totally subjective on my part), it will get loaded into the rotation
Knock this down today, it’s just a fun easy project for today only.
